Hiking in Big South Fork Country

Hikers of all ages are sure to enjoy the hundreds of miles of hiking available in the Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area, in Pickett State Park, and the TN State Natural Areas located throughout the region. In the BSFNRRA, you can hike the East Rim Overlook for a scenic river overlook; the Leatherwood Loop for a scenic overlook, rock bluffs and river; angel Falls Rapid to see the river views, bluffs, rapids and wildflowers, and/or the Oscar Blevins Loop to view mature forest, bluffs, rock shelters, and waterfalls. In Pickett State Park, hiking trails encompass views such as beautiful timberlands with abundant wildlife, natural sandstone bridges and bluffs, and a 15 acre lake. Pickett State Park features architectural finds such as the Citizens' Conversation Core built cabins - part of FDR's public works program in the 1930's prior to World War II. And, you won't want to miss Colditz Cove State Natural area, the Twin Arches - the second largest natural bridge in the southeastern United States or the Sgt. Alvin C. York Grist Mill and Park.
